Some of the basic do’s and don’ts of pregnancy are pretty obvious. Do see your doctor regularly. Don’t smoke or use illegal drugs. But there are other things that are just as important to do (or not do) during the course of your pregnancy. Today we’ll share just a few of the lesser known do’s and don’ts of pregnancy.
DO… if you aren’t already, make sure you start taking a prenatal vitamin that includes proper amounts of Folic Acid.
DON’T… handle the kitty litter from your cat’s box. According to WomensHealth.gov website, “This could put you at risk for toxoplasmosis, an infection that can be very harmful to the fetus.”
DO… get enough sleep. Take naps when possible and rest when needed. Your body is working hard to support the growth of your new baby, don’t be afraid to say “no” when you need to.
DON’T… take very hot baths, sit in hot tubs or saunas as this can cause your body temperature to rise, which can be harmful to your baby.
DO… talk to your doctor about any medications you’re currently taking.
DON’T… use toxic substances such as cleaning solvents, insecticides and even paint; even the fumes can be dangerous for your baby.
DO… exercise regularly during your pregnancy. This can promote a healthy weight gain and lead to a smoother delivery and recovery, however…
DON’T… participate in activities that are full contact or may lead you to fall from a height or increased speed; these things can be extremely dangerous to you and your baby.
Pregnancy may feel like a time when you’re told nothing but “do this” and “don’t do this” but in the end it’s a small price to pay to help your baby grow and develop as smoothly and healthy as possible. If you have more questions about things to do or avoid during your pregnancy, definitely talk to your doctor.
